Bellevue College Turns 50 in 2016

Celebrations planned to mark half century of academic excellence
Bellevue, Wash – It all started with fewer than 500 students taking classes in temporary space in 1966. The foundation was strong, though, growing into Bellevue College, a school about 10 miles east of downtown Seattle that is about to celebrate a major milestone.
Bellevue turns 50 years old in 2016.  To mark the half century of education excellence, Bellevue College is planning a year-long celebration that ranges from an informal birthday party on campus Jan. 13 to a birthday festival during Homecoming week and a visit by the Washington State Supreme Court in November.
Other Bellevue College events will be announced throughout the year and will include a Bellevue College Foundation luncheon and 50th Anniversary Gala
“We are excited about celebrating 50 years of excellence on the Eastside and beyond,” said Bellevue College President, Dr. David L. Rule. “We look forward to sharing our story while also celebrating all that our future holds.”
Bellevue College is the third-largest institution of higher education in the state of Washington with an annual enrollment of nearly 33,000.  Students can take advantage of nearly100 professional and technical programs that help them prepare for the jobs of today and opportunities of tomorrow.  This includes careers in business, health care, public safety and technology. Bellevue also offers 10 bachelor’s degrees.
From its humble beginnings, Bellevue has grown into a respected and honored academic institution with global reach. In 2009, the name of the school was changed to Bellevue College to more accurately reflect its evolving identity as a leading academic institution for the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, Bellevue College is calling on local residents, alumni and others who may have photos, stories or other assets that would help document the history of the school.  Materials can be sent to:50th@bellevuecollege.edu
Alumni and friends can keep up-to-date with the 50th anniversary by liking the Bellevue College Facebook page or following Bellevue College on Twitter and Instagram.
