Bellevue College DECA triumphs at NW regional competition 49 BC students will advance to the national competition, represent school

49 BC students will advance to the national competition, represent school
BELLEVUE, Wash.  – Forty nine out of 52 Bellevue College students are advancing from the Collegiate DECA Pacific Northwest Career Development Conference held Feb. 19 – 21 in Spokane, Washington and will participate in the national competition in Washington, DC April 16-19

Bellevue College fielded the largest team at the tournament, competing against students from University of Washington, Washington State University, Western Washington University, Gonzaga University and other prominent schools in the region.


The Bellevue College team, which is only in its second year, produced 19 state champions.  In total, Bellevue College boasts 37 top three finalists:

“The DECA program allows me to see tremendous growth in my students that I might otherwise only have a glimpse of from classroom teaching,” said Professor Kyle Barber, the program’s executive director and head coach. “Regardless of the outcome in competition, every one of these students is growing and becoming more adept at landing employment in a managerial or executive capacity.”
Collegiate DECA is an international association of college students and teachers of marketing, business, finance, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. The organization prepares leaders and entrepreneurs for careers and education in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and other business areas. It is one of ten organizations listed as Career and Technical Student Organizations by the United States Department of Education. The DECA Collegiate Division includes over 215,000 members in 275 colleges and universities.
