Cheryl Carson named KING 5 News Director

KING 5 News moved to its brand new, state of the art studio this week, with a new leader at the helm.  Cheryl Carson, former KING 5 Assistant News Director and Interim News Director since September, was officially presented to the newsroom as news director on Thursday, February 11.

“We know it has been a long wait, but it was our responsibility as of one of America’s very best news organizations and Seattle’s most successful media company to find the right person for the job.  We interviewed inspiring news talent from around the country and are pleased to announce that Cheryl Carson has accepted the challenge to lead KING 5 News into the future,” said Ray Heacox, KING 5 President and General Manager.

Cheryl Carson first joined The Home Team as Assistant News Director in 2012.
During her time at KING 5, Carson’s steady, insightful leadership shone through some of the biggest news cycles in our history.  She led the KING 5 newsroom’s transition to several new operating systems and now to an entirely new building.  Carson was also instrumental in courting a relationship with Microsoft to secure and implement a first-of-its-kind large screen Surface Hub for the KING 5 set.  Her vision, work ethic and patience have proven her a great leader, the leader who is now poised to issue in a new chapter of journalistic excellence for Western Washington.

“It has been an amazing journey to work alongside KING’s best to understand the station’s foundation and to now have the opportunity to lead the way in our new facility while protecting our station’s journalistic and community service legacy. I am honored to serve and lead this outstanding organization as News Director,” said Carson.

Cheryl Carson came to KING 5 by way of KTTV, the Fox O and O in Los Angeles, where she was Senior Executive Producer.  She also served as News Director for WGHP in Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point and held EP roles in Las Vegas and Greenville, NC.
