Washington Governor Jay Inslee has named Richard Fukutaki, of Bellevue, to the Board of Trustees of Bellevue College. In this role, Fukutaki will participate in the six-member board that oversees college operations and finance.
“Our institution is positioned to make great strides in the coming years,” said BC President Dr. David Rule. “Richard brings a wealth of knowledge that will be key as we continue to grow.”
Fukutaki is the managing director of the SunBreak group, which he co-founded in 1999, working with organizations such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to help launch a program designed to help excite
young people about science and math learning as well as careers in those fields. His prior work includes Mattel, Tyco and Wizards of the Coast, where his divisions were responsible for management of toy lines like The Simpsons, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Tyco R/C vehicles, and games such as Pokémon, Dungeons & Dragons, and Magic: The Gathering.
As an active member of the community, Fukutaki serves on the board for Bellevue Girl’s Lacrosse Club, is a Service Day volunteer at Jubilee Reach Center and leads Sunday school classes at Bellevue Presbyterian Church.
“This is an exciting time to join the board of Bellevue College and I look forward to advancing the mission of serving the needs of the students and of the community,” Fukutaki said.
Fukutaki earned his associate’s degree from Pasadena City College, his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his MBA from the University of Southern California.
Fukutaki is serving a four-year term, running through September 2019.
