Club Pilates Bellevue PlazaClub Pilates Franchise Enters Puget Sound Market with Studio in Downtown Bellevue

Club Pilates, the nation’s largest and fastest-growing Pilates franchise, has brought its inclusive and positive studio atmosphere to the Bellevue Plaza Shopping Center at 143 106th Ave. in Bellevue.

The Club Pilates studio in Downtown Bellevue is the first to open in the Seattle area, and hosts a variety of 50-minute classes that range from beginner to intense Cardio Sculpt workouts. The 1,200 square foot studio is equipped with reformers for all classes, exo-chairs and springboards, as well as mats, balls, dumbbells, magic circles, and ballet barres.

“Pilates is good for all and can be done by everybody. From Hollywood stars like Jennifer Aniston and Lady Gaga to top athletes like Lebron James and Peyton Manning, baby boomers to new moms, more and more people are turning to Pilates to meet their health and fitness goals,” said studio owner Nikki Adams. “My intent in opening this studio is to create a space where people of all fitness levels who are serious about their health and well-being can work in small groups or individually with expert and personalized instruction.”

Adams has been practicing Pilates since 2001 and actually won the studio through a Club Pilates franchise giveaway.

Club Pilates Bellevue currently offers 36 classes per week, seven days a week, that start as early as 8 a.m. and as late as 7:30 p.m., so there's almost always a class for even the busiest of schedules. Class times and reservations are all accessible online, and the studio has discounted monthly memberships and class packages starting as low as $10 per class. The studio also has introductory specials perfect for those new to Pilates.

In addition to group classes, the studio offers private instruction by appointment.

"The whole premise of Club Pilates is to make Pilates accessible to every body type, regardless of age, fitness and activity level, or gender,” Adams said. "It's meant to be affordable and accessible."

Adams has committed to opening three studios total in the Seattle area, and is looking to open the second studio in Kent by the end of the year. A third location is planned for the Capitol Hill area in 2016. Company plans call for having as many as five studios in the area over the next few years.

Since its inception in 2007, the Irvine, California-based franchise has rapidly expanded throughout California, as well as many other states including Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin. A studio recently opened in Australia as well.

Chick-fil-A to Open April 9th at Former Denny's Location on 116th in Bellevue

Chick-fil-A First 100Washington’s first stand-alone Chick-fil-A restaurant will open April 9 in Bellevue, bringing the restaurant’s signature menu of fresh, hand-crafted food and award-winning customer service to the Puget Sound with the first of three locations opening this spring.

The new restaurant, formally named Chick-fil-A at Northeast 8th Street and located at 785 116th Avenue NE (formerly the long time location of Denny's), will be locally owned and operated by Bellevue entrepreneur Valerie Artis. She will oversee day-to-day activities of the restaurant and will be responsible for serving local guests and visitors, as well as making all employment and community involvement decisions for the restaurant.

The grand opening celebration includes the chance for 100 adults to win free Chick-fil-A meals for a year. Community members will also have the opportunity to donate books that will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Bellevue. After 11 years and nearly $24 million in free food given away, Chick-fil-A’s “First 100” celebration continues to be the restaurant company’s signature grand opening event, which transforms the restaurant parking lot into a 24-hour community friendly party as the crowd awaits the opening.

The new Bellevue restaurant will host the next First 100 event that will award more than $32,000 in free food. A digital offer card loaded with a one-year supply of free Chick-fil-A Meals will be given to each of the first 100 eligible adults, ages 18 and older with identification, in line when the doors open about 6 a.m. on Thursday, April 9. If more than 100 people are onsite when the line officially forms at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, then all 100 spots will be determined by a drawing held that morning with those selected needing to camp out for 24 hours to secure their spot. This community event is only open to guests residing in specific zip codes within a 60-mile radius surrounding the restaurant. A complete listing of eligible zip codes and rules can be found at Chick-fil-A First 100 Promotion.

To celebrate the new Chick-fil-A restaurant and the Bellevue community, local owner Valerie Artis is collecting new children’s books to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Bellevue. The entire community is invited to bring children’s books to the restaurant from Tuesday, April 7, through Saturday, April 11, to be placed in a Book House, donated by the Chick-fil-A Foundation. The nearly three-foot Book House, created entirely from reclaimed wood, will then be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Bellevue.

Creating 80 new jobs, Chick-fil-A at Northeast 8th Street is the first of three stand-alone Puget Sound Chick-fil-A restaurants opening this spring. The second, at 3902 S. Steele St. in Tacoma, will open a week later on April 16 and the third, located at 3026 196th St. SW in Lynnwood, will follow in early May.

Reflecting the chain’s mission to serve freshly prepared food in greener buildings, Bellevue’s new Chick-fil-A is built to LEED specifications with water and energy efficiency features, air quality control and waste diversion efforts, among other initiatives.

With dining room seating for 48 and outdoor patio seating for 46 guests, the new restaurant also includes drive-thru service for customers on the go. The interior features the chain’s latest design which incorporates subway tile and metals in a variety of finishes and patinas all complimented by an abundance of windows. The vintage-inspired interior includes other unique custom features such as light fixtures made from recycled Coca-Cola bottles and peach baskets.

The restaurant, which offers free Wi-Fi, is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., serving a full breakfast menu until 10:30 a.m.  Like all Chick-fil-A restaurants, it will be closed on Sunday.

Artis is relocating with her husband and two sons from her native California where she graduated from UCLA. She decided to pursue the Chick-fil-A operator opportunity after a 17-year career in marketing, most recently in the hospitality industry where she worked in menu development and product marketing strategies. Outside of work, her passions include mentoring young people, something her new role as a Chick-fil-A owner/operator will allow her to continue as many Chick-fil-A team members are teens and young adults, learning job skills that will last a lifetime. Combining her hospitality experience with her enthusiasm for serving others, Artis is thrilled to be opening Bellevue’s first Chick-fil-A restaurant.

“Personalized customer service and freshly prepared food have been the hallmarks of Chick-fil-A since the day founder Truett Cathy opened his first restaurant,” said Artis. “My team members and I are committed to those same ideals as we welcome our guests to our new Bellevue restaurant and provide them with a remarkable experience.”

Perfecting a recipe his mother used in her Atlanta boarding house, Cathy first served his boneless breast-of-chicken sandwich, pressured cooked and served on a buttered bun with two crucial pickles, at his Dwarf Grill restaurant which opened in 1946 in Hapeville, Ga. It was the signature menu item when the first Chick-fil-A restaurant opened in 1967 inside an Atlanta mall. Though joined by many other menu options over the years, the Chick-fil-A sandwich remains the centerpiece of the menu as the chain has grown to more than 1,911 restaurants in 42 states and Washington D.C.

Known for its freshly prepared food, Chick-fil-A’s menu includes a variety of options including its signature hand-breaded, boneless breast-of-chicken Chick-fil-A sandwich along with hand-chopped salads, fresh-squeezed lemonade, made-from-scratch biscuits and hand-spun milkshakes.

The new Chick-fil-A on 116th Avenue NE is one of 88 new restaurants the chain plans to open across the country in 2015, creating more than 7,400 new jobs.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue to Hold Grand Opening Celebration for New Fieldhouse at Hidden Valley Sports Park

Bellevue Boys & Girls Club logoBoys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue will host a public ceremony celebrating the Grand Opening of their Foster Family Foundation Branch – the Fieldhouse at Hidden Valley Sports Park. The event will take place on Saturday, March 28th from 10am-11am at Hidden Valley Fieldhouse, located at 1903 112th Avenue NE, Bellevue, WA 98004. The public is invited to join as they celebrate this exciting milestone for our community!

The new Fieldhouse at Hidden Valley Park is a unique partnership with the City of Bellevue that will provide recreational facilities for thousands of youth and their families on the Eastside. This 27,000 sq. ft facility has three courts, classroom space and a concession stand that will serve both the indoor courts and outdoor sports fields. Hidden Valley Fieldhouse is now open for programming and will house BGCB’s Spring Sports programs for ages 5-18 starting in April. Spring programs include volleyball, soccer, basketball and Spring Break Sports camps. Registration is online at www.bgcbellevue.org.

In 2012, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue launched a community-wide campaign to open more doors for more kids – helping to meet the needs of a growing Bellevue and strengthen the fabric of our community. Through this campaign, the goal is to expand our capacity to serve over 70% more youth by increasing their programmable space by 80% throughout the city. The Hidden Valley Fieldhouse is the second capital project to open since then, the first being “The Club” Teen Center in East Bellevue. We hope to break ground on the third and final project – our Main Clubhouse in downtown Bellevue, this year.

Since 1952, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue (BGCB) has been in the forefront of youth development; targeting services to young people from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances. In 2014, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue served more than 14,000 members and their families, providing a safe, fun place that encourages kids to choose healthy lifestyles, get involved with their communities and achieve academic success. By inspiring our youth to make constructive life choices, they strive to help them realize their full potential. The Club upholds a policy that no child will be turned away because of an ability to pay, and in the past year the BGCB has awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships to families in need. KURIOS – CABINET OF CURIOSITIES becomes the most successful Cirque du Soleil show in Redmond to date!

Kurios Cabinet of CuriositiesCirque du Soleil’s latest Big Top production, KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities, has less than two weeks left under the Big Top at Marymoor Park in Redmond, Wash. with its final performance onSunday, March 22. A limited number of tickets are still available for the final performances in Seattle by calling 1-877-924-7783 or visiting www.cirquedusoleil.com/kurios.

KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities made its premiere in Marymoor Park on January 29, 2015. Due to overwhelming demand, the show was extended multiple times.  Critics have hailed KURIOS as “one of the funniest clowning bits I’ve seen from Cirque du Soleil in years” (The Seattle Times) and “makes its world and characters almost entirely human – and in doing so, reawakens our sense of sheer wonder” (The News Tribune).

Directed by Michel Laprise, KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities is a tale in which time comes to a complete stop, transporting the audience inside a fantasy world where everything is possible. In this realm set in the latter half of the nineteenth century, reality is quite relative indeed as our perception of it is utterly transformed. The name of the show refers to the humble and strange characters that inhabit the Seeker’s Cabinet of Curiosities.

Give Rides to Change Lives! Volunteers Needed!

[caption id="attachment_9918" align="alignright" width="300"]Geraldine Mensink and Linda Bauer are all smiles as they head off for a ride on a sunny day. Geraldine Mensink and Linda Bauer are all smiles as they head off for a ride on a sunny day.[/caption]

87-year-old Geraldine Mensink does not know what she’d do without Volunteer Transportation.  When she decided it was time to give up her keys two years ago, the program saved her from feeling helpless and stuck.  She uses the service regularly to get to appointments and says, “I love all of the volunteer drivers!  They are wonderful.”

Since 1975, Senior Services’ Volunteer Transportation drivers have accumulated “miles and miles” of positive impact throughout King County.  Using their own vehicles, volunteers pick seniors up, take them to their doctors and drive them home again—offering valuable transportation with a personal touch.  Clients of the program often refer to them as their “heroes,” “guardian angels” or “life-savers.”  In a very tangible way, volunteer drivers make a difference in the lives of vulnerable members of our community.

Volunteer Transportation currently faces the grim reality that it cannot serve all seniors in need of rides to important medical care.  More volunteer drivers are needed!  If you have a reliable vehicle, a clean driving record and some weekday availability, this is the role for you.  Visit the program’s blog to read more of its stories; contact Hilary at (206) 748-7588 or hilaryc@seniorservices.org to find out more; or fill out an online volunteer driver application to sign-up.  Help more seniors like Geraldine get “on the road” to improved health and peace of mind!
